Spelthorne Direct Services Ltd (SDS) is a commercial waste company wholly owned by Spelthorne Borough Council. Launched in 2020, SDS provides tailored commercial waste solutions to help local businesses improve efficiency and reduce their carbon footprint. Reliability and excellent customer service are central to our approach, and we are always focused on finding solutions to support our clients.

The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Waste Operations Manager to join our growing team. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, managing customer relationships, supervising staff, and supporting the financial health of the business.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Management

• Respond to initial customer enquiries and provide quotations for commercial waste services

• Lead contract negotiations and manage ongoing customer agreements

• Build and maintain strong relationships with business clients and external contractors

Staff Management

• Manage the waste collection team, including drivers, ensuring they are fully trained and equipped for their roles

• Oversee HR processes such as employment contracts, holidays, pension arrangements, and other staff welfare matters

Operational Oversight

• Ensure commercial waste and recycling services are delivered in line with schedules and quality standards

• Maintain full compliance with environmental and health & safety regulations, including driver hours and all legal requirements

• Oversee round sequencing and scheduling using our in-house transport management systems

• Attend and chair monthly Board meetings, presenting operational updates

Finance

• Contribute to company accounts and budgeting processes

• Support forward financial projections and planning in collaboration with company leadership

Other Requirements

• Knowledge of the Spelthorne Borough and its local business landscape is preferred but not essential.

About You

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial operations, excellent customer service and people management skills, and a good understanding of HR and financial responsibilities. Experience with transport and logistics systems is beneficial.
